AMP Fit AMP Device Review

This product was in-house tested by Michael at The Jungle Gym Reviews.

The AMP Fit AMP Device is a wall-mounted smart cable system designed for people who want modern digital resistance without installing a full smart gym like Tonal. The biggest advantage is its extremely compact footprint and relatively low price compared to other electronic cable systems.

The main limitation is the single cable exit and 100-pound resistance cap, which makes it better suited for accessory work than heavy strength training. It makes the most sense for apartment gyms, small spaces, or people who want a simple cable system that integrates with an app rather than a full screen-based smart gym.

My Real-World Experience

Using the AMP Device feels very different from a traditional cable system, but in a good way for the right type of setup. The entire system is controlled with a single rotary dial. You twist to adjust weight from 5 to 100 pounds and press to switch between Fixed, Eccentric, and Band modes.

It’s intentionally minimal, which means there’s almost no learning curve. I mostly used it the same way I would use a normal cable station alongside free weights. Tricep pushdowns, curls, one-arm pulldowns, and accessory movements all worked well.

What surprised me most was that the single cable exit didn’t bother me nearly as much as I expected. For most exercises I normally do with cables, a single-handle version of the movement works just fine.

The digital resistance does feel slightly different from a traditional cable stack. The cable itself is more like a tightly bound rope rather than a nylon-coated steel cable, and the electric motor creates a slightly snappier return. Once you start using Eccentric mode or Band mode though, the feel becomes much closer to a traditional cable system.

Training Use Cases

The AMP Device works best as a compact accessory cable system rather than a full replacement for traditional strength equipment. It’s ideal for exercises like tricep pushdowns, curls, lateral raises, single-arm pulldowns, and other accessory movements.

It also pairs well with a minimalist home gym setup such as adjustable dumbbells and a bench. In a small apartment or bedroom gym, this can effectively function as the primary cable machine while the rest of your training comes from free weights.

Tradeoffs and Limitations

The biggest limitation is the single cable exit point. While most exercises still work, movements like chest flyes require single-arm variations rather than traditional dual-cable versions.

The proprietary attachment system is another compromise because it doesn’t allow standard carabiner attachments, meaning you’re limited to the accessories AMP provides. The 100-pound resistance cap is also a limiting factor for heavier strength training movements.

Value and Alternatives

Where the AMP Device stands out is price relative to other smart cable systems. Systems like Tonal 2 and the Speediance Gym Monster 2 cost roughly twice as much and include dual cables and integrated screens.

The AMP Device removes those elements and instead relies on your phone for the training interface. That design decision keeps the system smaller and significantly cheaper, but it also limits some functionality compared to larger smart gyms.

Who Should Buy the AMP Fit AMP Device

This device makes the most sense for people with limited space who want a modern cable system with digital resistance and guided training through an app. Apartment gyms, bedrooms, or multipurpose living spaces are exactly the type of environment this system was designed for.

Who Should Skip It

If you need heavy cable resistance for strength training, dual cable functionality, or compatibility with standard cable attachments, a traditional cable machine or larger smart gym system will make more sense.

Final Verdict

The AMP Device is one of the most compact smart cable systems available and one of the least expensive ways to get digital resistance training at home. It sacrifices dual cables and heavier resistance to achieve that simplicity and price point.

For the right user — someone with limited space who wants modern smart training features — it’s a very practical piece of equipment.
