Titan Fitness Selectorized Leg Extension and Curl Review: The Hottest Machine of the Year?
Introduction
This has easily been one of my most anticipated home gym machine releases since the prototype was unveiled and teased last year and finally, it’s here. This is the Titan Fitness Selectorized Seated Leg Extension and Leg Curl machine. This 2-in-1 machine features a 250LB weight stack with a 1:1 pulley ratio, a spiral cam that creates a very evenly distributed resistance profile, supportive yet comfortable padding with slightly grippy vinyl, plenty of seat and leg and range of motion adjustments, and overall just looks very modern sleek, aggressive, has a nice touch of red anodized aluminum on the pins and pulleys. This is one of Titan’s newest releases and I think one of their flagship products to set the tone for the quality of future product releases. But as with any combo machine there are tradeoffs and of course it’s not 100% perfect, so I am here to tell you what to expect and if you should consider this for your gym. So let’s check it out!
Hey guys this is Michael with The Jungle Gym Reviews, today we are reviewing the very newly released, Titan Fitness selectorized Leg Extension and Leg Curl combo machine. Up till now, Titan Fitness for the past few years has only offered the plate loaded seated leg extension and leg curl combo that has same issue with others that have a similar build, in that the resistance curve isn’t great out of the box due to the weight loading arm and gravity, by nature of design. After owning that specific one myself a couple years ago, I actually quickly sold it because I despite their recent upgrade to the grippy vinyl on that machine, what they call the Hefty Grip Vinyl, the leg roller pads, specifically the one that went across the top of your legs during leg curls, was incredibly uncomfortable and downright painful. I am so happy to say this new selectorized machine is leaps and bounds ahead of that one in every single way, but also obviously costs a bit more, as expected, but let’s talk about how well it works.

Preface
Now I quickly want to mention that I am on the search to find the best selectorized leg extension and leg curl combo for home gyms because there are popping up so many options now, and aside from the plate loaded options that go up to about $800 and then the commercial options $3000 or $4000+ there hasn’t been a lot of great options to date. However I think companies are seeing that more and more people are willing to invest into good machines for their gym and want something in between that general price range, with weight stacks included, but when you cut down on the commcerial cost you do increase the tradeoffs, as the ones I have tried in that middle tier price range have all had issues with either price, comfort, lack of weight, load ability, range of motion, and/or overall adjustability and user accommodation. So that’s now why we are here trying this Titan version.
Price and Specs
Speaking to the price of this Titan machine, when they launched this a month or two ago the price point was $2299, but as of a few days ago I see on their website they bumped up the price to $2529. Clearly this was a highly anticipated product and they were expecting to have it sell out, which it did quickly, but you can signup via email to get notified when it’s back in stock, just again know the price did go up by around $200 from the original but I don’t think that is dela breaker by any means.
Some of the main features this machine offers is that 250LB weight stack in 10LB increments and it has a 1:1 cable ratio that mean that you feel the exact weight you select on the stack which is nice because then it means that the 250LB stack is heavy enough for most users, which is an issue that some other mid-tier leg extension and curls in a similar price range have. This machine is also made to fit and be assembled wherever you want in your home, and even though it does come in a big crate, it’s a partially bolt together design. Just know the final assembled product is this is heavy once it’s at about ~550LBS and the floor space it takes up when in the most compact leg extension position is about 3 ft wide by 5 feet long, and because it's rectangular design it fits very well in corners.
Leg Extension
When an early prototypes of this machine was unveiled at HomeGymCon and tested by some other creators last year, the feedback I heard was that the range of motion particularly for leg extension, was not that great. Thankfully I think they completed nailed it with this final version, and despite my pickiness, is definitely up to my satisfaction. First of all the machine itself is incredibly smooth, buttery smooth in fact, and it feels like a top of the line cable machine. Second, the seat angle, measured very unscientifically with my iPhone, is 27s degrees which is nicely angled to put your legs in a very nice pre stretched position, and it also has with the 4 starting position or range of motion selections for the leg extension. I personally keep mine at the lowest setting, meaning it gives you the most range of motion, and as you can see here it tucks your ankles behind your knees and coupled with that seat angle just gives you that perfect stretch to start the leg extension movement, which is something I personally always want in a leg extension is a more than 90 degree range of motion. Overall the leg extension movement feels fantastic and I had to rate it I would say it’s a solid 9/10 for that movment.
Now another important thing to notice, and part of also what makes it feel so great, is that resistance curve through the movement - feeling extremely natural and even throughout the entire range of motion thanks to the spider cam which wraps the weight cable around it as you go. The cam was designed really well to make sure you feel the full weight at the bottom and middle of the rep and I think it tapers off perfectly at the top to allow you to get that full lockout peak contraction without a ton of strain on your joints. This is actually something that I typically pick up on and is lacking on similar machines and especially with the plate loaded versions of these machines. I actually I called this out in my recently review of the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro leg developer because having a strictly equal weight distribution throughout the whole movement doesn’t feel natural due to your human biomechanics. At the end of the range of motion you just want it to lessen the resistance slightly when you are at the most mechanically disadvantageous position, which exactly what a cam is designed for is to module the resistance throughout. All this to say, I can really tell Titan did their homework on specifically the leg extension movement and how they designed the angles, the handles to hold on to, the ROM, and the cam to achieve this resistance profile and it feels just absolutely fantastic.
Leg Curl
The leg curl is similar in that there are also 4 height or range of motion start options which especially for leg curls, are easy to saw between because of the built in counterbalance which is weight at the end of the leg pad that allows you to change between the range of motion selections for the leg extension and leg curl easily without having to really press or hold some of the pop pin and hardware while doing. So it’s a nice quality of life feature and just again goes to show some of the detail they thought through when designing this machine. Likewise with the leg extension I like the leg curl starting point in the highest position, meaning the biggest range of motion, for another great pre-stretch on your hamstrings.
There are 7 different positions you select for the thigh pad and I typically dislike these round thigh pads on similar machine because I find them too hard or uncomfortable depending on where exactly front to back it gets pressed into your thighs but another thing I have found is that the padding density on this machine for all the pads, have enough cushion to where it feels still comfortable to exert full force against them. As I mentioned prior, it does have their HeftyGripVinyl, it’s not too grippy and seems to be so far just the right amount of grip to make sure you don’t slide around but not too much grip to where any of the pads twist your skin or rep out your leg hairs, and really the only really downsize I have noticed on the vinyl is due to the little grippy grooves and the fact it is a flat black color, it shows skin and sweat marks very easily, but if that’s the biggest compliant about the machine I think Titan is doing something right.
For the leg curl brace, I mentioned in my prior review of the Nautilus Instinct Leg Extension and Curl combo review that I would prefer to have a flat pad and grip handles on top of the leg curl pad both for in general comfort and the ability to properly brace yourself during leg curls so you don’t slide out of the seat. Now the fact the vinyl is comfortable, the pads don’t spin, and the padding perfect density allow me to get really locked in right above my knees where I like it so I can really focus on just curling. However, my compliant for leg curls is that the handles for leg extension don’t work as well when you are trying to do leg curl because although my upper back is touching the back pad, my hips get pulled into the force of the movement and even though the seat pad is nicely angled, you can see my body wanting to get pulled away from the backpad with nothing to push against. I find I can grap underneath the seat and pull myself downwards a bit more to stop from scooting or sliding down, but in my mind, this issue could be completely resolved just by having a flat thigh pad with hand braces like you see on some other machines. Overall, taking all of that into consideration, the leg movement itself feels solid, but I would rate this exercise slightly less well than the leg extension but still an 8/10 because the range of motion is great, the comfort is great, but you do have to find creative ways to brace your torso takes slightly away from doing the exercise as intended. This isn’t a unique problem to this specific machine but of all leg extension and curls that have a round thigh pad for curls. To others it might not be as big of a deal but to me this is my preference.
Adding Weight
One of the other main concerns with these more “budget friendly” machines is the overall max weight. Again it’s 1:1 so the weight selected on the stack is the weight you feel and you do have 260LBS to work with. The bad news is even measly old me can do a couple reps at 260, although my typical working weight is closer to 160-180 for sets of 10-15 reps depending where, but I want to mention that for some people wanting to load this really heavy, even 260 wont be enough.
The great news is that because of the open plate and open shroud back design, you can utilize a weight stack adder pin, my favorite to this date is still the Bare Steel Stacked weight pin which I will link below, and it allows you to add up to 3 plates or 135 pounds on the 10 inches of sleeve length that way you effectively turn this into a have 395 pound weight stack which is enough for probably literally anybody except Brian Shaw to rep out. I do want to note though, because of the shroud here, if you plan to use a weight stack adder you can only fit on 2 Olympic plates, but can easily just forego installing the shroud at all if you think that will be an issue for you personally and then you can load all 3 plates as needed.
Overall
So overall, I think this is honestly the best product I think Titan Fitness has released certainly in recent years. I have always appreciated Titan and their ability to provide some of the most cost effective equipment out there, especially as they were some of the original companies offering plate loaded versions of popular commercial machines, however they haven’t seemed to evolve much in their overall product options in recent years. I do also have their 100inch Titan Series 6 post power rack with a drop in REP Fitness PR5000 selectorized lat pulldown and a few other goodies, which you can see in my Best Budget Compact Power Rack Build video, and I have owned plenty of their other products from benches, barbells, racks, to urethane dumbbells, hack squat leg press, other plate loaded machines and more. I know they have always been viewed as the little brother compared to Rogue and REP especially with respect to customer service and quality control issues that I see pop up in online forums. Nevertheless, this product clearly is a HUGE step up for them and really goes to show they are walking the walk because they just delivered on a fantastic product with a lot of value that is arguably one of the most sought after pieces for home gyms because it’s really hard to isolate quads and hamstrings with just dumbbell and free weight options. As of today, I think this has to be the one of the bestleg extension and curl combos in this price range with a large included weight stack, overall good engineering design, a lot of comfort, and not a lot of downsides. Although they did increase the price by $200 in the past week, I think it is still a great value, and I will definitely keep you posted on the channel as I try out some of the competitors like the Temple of Gains selectorized seated leg extension and prone leg curl v2 which I see as the one asked about the most often compared to this Titan machine. Both are recently released, both have similar specs so stay tuned for that review and more coming in the next couple of months as well.
Build Quality/Limitations
Now if I had to be really picky, which I am sure people will be when spending thousands of dollars on any machine, a couple of things I noticed is that the back pad wobbles slightly, because it just a rectangular notched tube held by a pop pin, But because it doesn’t have a threaded pop pin, there is no way to stop it from moving slightly within the fram housing, although this one does not wobble while you are using. Also speaking to the backpad I think they could have moved the frame mounting location a bit farther bit to accommodate taller users especially for leg curls. When I do leg curls I sit in the furthest back position but I am 6ft2, with decently long legs. So I would guess I would say if you are over 6ft4 or 5 , you probably will start pushing the limits size your size being well accommodates on this machine to. The leg extension does not have the same limitations however and I use the 2nd or 3rd lowest setting back pad setting there. Some of the other things I noticed is that while the overall quality is great and it don’t have any major dings or scratches on the frame, I did end up accidentally chipping the paint chipping on the spiral cam lip when installing the cable for the weight stack. Apparently whatever I nicked on the corner was enough to chip the paint so I already have about 2 inches of exposed lip surface now, which really to me doesn’t matter but some other might care or want to be careful around that lip or in general with some of the powdercoating.
Some of the things I like about the overall build is the shroud makes it looks much more commercial and premium. I also really like the all black padding and frame which is a Titan Fitness staple, and the quality of and even just the look of the anodized aluminum pop pins with the Titan helmet logo are a great touch from them. Other things like the counter weight for the range of motion selector, really just show the attention to detail they considered when designing this machine. The last question I know I will get and I did want to address is that there doesn’t seem to be any noticeable flex to the leg arm, = if you apply both legs across it, so nothing either by looks or by perception at all, it feels very even and the tolerances and connection points seem solid for my use.
